| Bio: | CHARACTER NAME: Medea Pierce CHARACTER ALIAS: (if applicable) None PB: Freema Agyeman AGE: 27 (12 March 1985) SEX/SEXUAL PREFERENCE: Female/Straight AIM/JOURNAL NAME: OCCUPATION: Doctor at New York City Free Clinic POWER/ABILITY: Gene therapy, minor regeneration, and diagnosis When she was 23, Medea discovered that she could sense what ails a patient. She will feel an echo of what they are feeling and will know what organ is inflected. Touching the body, anywhere, will allow her ability to manifest. Medea cannot just sense the problem, but she can cure it as well. If the problem has occurred naturally (outside damage does not apply, nor does the natural aging process), such as cancer, leukemia (or structural problems, such as blind, deaf, or mental, autistic, or physical, club foot, etc), Medea can reconstruct the affected appendage or organ. She will transmute the problem into herself into a much lesser affliction. For a few days, she will feel sick and will have the same side effects the person had been feeling, but to a lesser degree. Then her body will return to normal. Medea cannot heal wounds or mend broken bones, though she can sense these things are there. She can't reverse the aging process and she can't bring the dead back to life. STATUS: (hero, villain, or fencer) Hero PAST/BIO: Born and raised in London England, the oldest of three. Her mother worked as lead hair and makeup person for a movie studio. The job had her often on-location and hardly at home. Medea's father had an electronics store that was just blocks away from the house. In her childhood, she and her younger sisters spent most of their time there. Things began going wrong when Medea was eleven. Her father was supposedly sterile, but her mother had gotten pregnant. Her mother initially denied everything, but then he came down with a shocking revelation--he didn't believe any of their children were his. Medea's father freaked out and left that night. She didn't just lose him, though; she lost both of her parents. Her mother declined to offer any explanation--though, Medea, mature for her age, thought she would understand. After that, Medea saw her mother mostly on holidays. She and her siblings were sent to boarding school for most of the year and her aunt's the rest of the time. It was her aunt who first introduced her to medicine. She was a gynecologist. Medea loved going with her to the hospital. Sometimes she would stay in the baby ward, looking at the newborns or sitting with the expectant mothers and asking them what it was like being preggers. Other times, she would just wander the hospital. Doctors, nurses, and orderlies didn't stop her as she was the niece of Dr. Thompson, the director of gynecology. She had a vast memory and, when the time was allowed, she asked questions of everyone. The patients were less so open. Sometimes she would visit the sick children's ward and would bring them sweets and perform magic tricks for them. When Madea was a little older, she became a candy stripper during the holidays. She loved the hospital so much that she asked to stay with her aunt all the time and attend a local school. Her aunt, who was unmarried and without children of her own, allowed this. The money that would have gone to her boarding school was then put into trust for her. For four years, the agreement continued like this. When Medea graduated from school, she had no problem deciding what she wanted to do. Medea enrolled in her medical studies at Oxford. Her focus was on internal medicine and diagnosis. After graduating from med school, wanderlust bit Medea. She went to the US, New York, under an exchange program. The US had become a hotbed of controversy, hatred, fear, and martial law. It was against her better judgment, especially given light of her secret. But for two years, still undetected, she's been at a free clinic in NYC, working with the poor and the underbelly of the city. CHARACTER SOLO: Joss Martin, age 12, by all appearances was the picture of perfect health. Mrs. Martin worked two, sometimes three, jobs to keep her two kids' heads above water. Medea knew it went deeper than that, too. If there was little food in the house, Mrs. Martin's girl and boy would be well fed and she would go without. Mrs. Martin did the same when it came to her family's health care. Medea knew it had been over three years since Mrs. Martin had seen a doctor, but she didn't know anything more than that. Medea would sneak a diagnostic on Mrs. Martin while she shook the woman's hand. Today she was giving Joss just a regular check-up. "Hey, Doctor Pierce!" Joss gave her a gape-tooth grin. With the braids, Joss looked exactly like her sister Melanie when Mel was that age. "Hey, cutie. How are you?" The girl hugged her and brushed her cheek. Medea felt a numbness race through her appendages, to the tips of her fingers. Her limbs grew heavy. Her head began to droop. She forced her eyes to remain open. Her skin began going from normal warmth to iceberg cold. A pain began in the pit of her stomach that was unrelated to the wave of weakness. She had felt this before. It was the onset, but it wasn't full blown child leukemia yet. "Dr. Pierce! Are you okay?" Mrs. Martin asked as she touched Medea's clothed arm and steadied her. "I'm fine." She breathed unsteadily. "I just...need a minute." She didn't release Joss. Hers was the only means of treatment. Even standardized treatment couldn't offer a guarantee. Medea clasped Joss' shoulder where some of her skin was exposed. She imagined a floodgate being released. That's pretty much how it felt. The raw force of the disease seeped out of Joss' body and flooded into her own. Medea began shaking. "Doctor Pierce, you're scaring me." "It's...it's fine, Joss. You'll be fine." Medea tightened her jaw. Now the disease just had to run its course within her. "Nothing left to worry about."
